bikey randomness

I went to a presentation on the Mayor's visioning project recently where I was annoyed to have to circle the block looking for parking... for my bike. Every suitable object (bike staples, metal signposts set in concrete, gas pipes, handrails) had at least two bikes locked to it, as did a number of unsuitable objects (ie things from which the bikes could be liberated in under 30 seconds without use of tools). I had to park 2 blocks away. This is not so much a comment on inadequate bike fecilities as on the rapid rise of demand.
=====================================
Portland: cyclist proceeds through a red light when there is no traffic for blocks = $242 ticket.
Seattle: cyclist proceeds through red light when there is no traffic for blocks. Cyclist is a bike cop and he does not appear to be responding to a call or hurrying at all. I'm just sayin'.
